Amboseli Baboon Research Project

The Amboseli Baboon Project is a long-term, coordinated series of studies of yellow baboons, Papio cynocephalus, in the Amboseli region of East Africa, immediately north and west of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The Project has long centered on processes at the individual, group, and population levels, and in recent years has also included other aspects of baboon biology, such as genetics, hormones, and nutrition, hybridization, and relations with other species. Financial support for the Project has, at various times, come from a number of sources, especially the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, and the Chicago Zoological Society. |

Amboseli Baboon Research Project: Babase Project Database
The Babase Software Project is a data management system designed to facilitate retrieval, storage, and maintenance of data from the Amboseli Baboon Project. Since 1971, the Project has continuously monitored and collected data on a wild baboon population in Kenya's Amboseli National Park. The data collected from the Project can be accessed online through Babase. Records in Babase contain data from a range of broad categories: group membership; social status; life events; sexual cycle events and day-to-day status; dyadic social interactions; focal animal samples; multi-party social interactions; and weather data. Animal Protection and Environmental Sanctuary
APES (Animal Protection and Environmental Sanctuary)/Umpalazi is a combined community and wildlife project whose aim is to incorporate local community upliftment, including skills training, environmental education and aid work, along with the rehabilitation of injured and/or orphaned wildlife for future release and monitoring. APES also functions as a sanctuary for other displaced animals. The Bonobo Conservation Initiative (BCI) is a non-profit (USA: 501-c3) organization based in Washington, D.C. and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
