A.P.E.S. Portal
The goal of the A.P.E.S (Ape Populations Environments Surveys) Project is to "create a comprehensive database of all that is known about great ape distribution throughout their range, in order to better conserve them." Information found in the A.P.E.S Portal is compiled by ape conservationists, donors, scientists, and field experts. The website contains several interactive maps that show ape distribution and environment. Each map allows users to learn more about remaining ape populations and locations. AIDS Community Research Initiative of America
The resources on the AIDS Community Research Initiative of America (ACRIA) website reflect an advocacy/activism approach and are primarily aimed at patients, non-physician providers, and service organizations. ACRIA's HIV Health Literacy Program publications and information on the organization's HIV training programs and workshops are provided. The site offers resources from ACRIA's unique Center on HIV and Aging, which seeks to better understand HIV/AIDS in older adults. Clinical trial information includes lists of current community-based trials; recent trial results; and TrialSearch, a searchable national database that allows the user to search for HIV/AIDS trials by geographic location, condition, and treatment, as well as limit results according to eligibility criteria such as CD4 count, viral load, and age. |

AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition
AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition (AVAC) is an international nonprofit organization devoted to the "ethical development and eventual global delivery of AIDS vaccines and other new HIV prevention options." Although the AVAC website largely reflects an advocacy audience and approach, it does offer several unique research-oriented resources and tools. Research summaries, information on ongoing and completed clinical trials, and factsheets are provided for a variety of HIV prevention topics (including vaccines, pre-exposure prophylaxis, microbicides, and male circumcision). Other useful features include an interactive map, which allows users to click on countries around the world to identify current HIV prevention trials, and a timeline of expected results from prevention trials. Another helpful research tool is the Clinical Trial Site Capacity Database, which provides "a comprehensive inventory of microbicide [and other prevention strategy] clinical trial sites' clinical, laboratory, and staffing capacity" to maximize efficient site use. Amboseli Baboon Research Project: Babase Project Database
The Babase Software Project is a data management system designed to facilitate retrieval, storage, and maintenance of data from the Amboseli Baboon Project. Since 1971, the Project has continuously monitored and collected data on a wild baboon population in Kenya's Amboseli National Park. The data collected from the Project can be accessed online through Babase. Records in Babase contain data from a range of broad categories: group membership; social status; life events; sexual cycle events and day-to-day status; dyadic social interactions; focal animal samples; multi-party social interactions; and weather data. Datasets are currently updated and extensive documentation of Babase and a wiki is included on the website. |

AnAge is a database of aging and life history in animals and includes extensive longevity records. Searching and browsing in AnAge can be performed by keyword searches or phrases relating to the species or common name of the organism. AnAge entries contain information on classification; lifespan, aging, and relevant traits; life history traits; and metabolism. Data references used for AnAge are displayed, along with links to external resources. |

Animal Genome Size Database
The Animal Genome Size Database is a comprehensive catalog of animal genome size data created by Dr. T. Ryan Gregory. Access to the database is free and information is continually expanding. There are several ways to search the database. One can search by whole groups of animals, taxonomic classes, or by using the advanced search options using genus, species or common animal names. The Ape Populations, Environments, and Surveys (A.P.E.S.) Database, developed by the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology with a wide range of collaborators, is an online database that lists all known and supposed locations where apes can be found in Africa. A linked wiki allows browsing of sites by region, while an available PDF lists countries. The site also has an extensive list of citations and references, downloadable reports, policies, and factsheets, and newsletters in both French and English. A forum and FAQ allow for troubleshooting and questions, while interactive maps of Africa and Asia allow users to browse through the surveys by species and region. BioGRID
From the BioGRID website:
The Biological General Repository for Interaction Datasets (BioGRID) is a public database that archives and disseminates genetic and protein interaction data from model organisms and humans (thebiogrid.org). BioGRID currently holds over 500,000 interactions curated from both high-throughput datasets and individual focused studies, as derived from over 30 000 publications in the primary literature. Complete coverage of the entire literature is maintained for budding yeast (S. cerevisiae), fission yeast (S. pombe) and thale cress (A. thaliana), and efforts to expand curation across multiple metazoan species are underway. Current curation drives are focused on particular areas of biology to enable insights into conserved networks and pathways that are relevant to human health. The BioGRID 3.1 web interface contains new search and display features that enable rapid queries across multiple data types and sources. BioGRID provides interaction data to several model organism databases, resources such as Entrez-Gene, SGD, TAIR, FlyBase and other interaction meta-databases. The entire BioGRID 3.1 data collection may be downloaded in multiple file formats, including IMEx compatible PSI MI XML. For developers, BioGRID interactions are also available via a REST based Web Service and Cytoscape plugin. All BioGRID documentation is available online in the BioGRID Wiki. |

Biologic Specimen and Data Repository Information Coordinating Center
The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute's Biologic Specimen and Data Repository Information Coordinating Center (BioLINCC) works "to enhance and facilitate further research in cardiovascular, pulmonary and hematologic conditions by providing access to qualified investigators to stored biospecimen and data collections." The most important resource offered on the site is the study and dataset database, which lets the user search through all the studies currently in their open period to find specific keywords or samples available. BrainInfo
BrainInfo is a portal to neuroanatomical information on the Web. The portal consists of three parts: NeuroNames, which provides an index and narrative to brain structures; Template Atlas, which shows the structures that are found in the primate brain; and NeuroMaps, which is a set of several hundred overlays that show the location of different kinds of information that have been mapped to the standard background maps (templates) of the Atlas. Users can find information by searching for the name of brain structures or by browsing through the brain atlases to locate a particular structure. BrainInfo also contains links to other helpful resources such as downloadable templates and other brain atlas resources. |

CanProVar is designed to store and display single amino acid alterations including both germline and somatic variations in the human proteome, especially those related to the genesis or development of human cancer based on the published literatures. Cancer-related variations and conrresponding annotations can be queried through the web-interface using Protein IDs in the Ensembl, IPI, RefSeq, and Uniport/Swiss-Prot databases or gene names and Entrez gene IDs. Fasta files with variation information are also available for download. |

The Carcinogenic Potency Database (CPDB) provides users with a resource which contains the results of "6540 chronic, long-term animal cancer tests on 1547 chemicals." The database provides "easy access to the bioassay literature, with qualitative and quantitative analyses of both positive and negative experiments that have been published over the past 50 years in the general literature through 2001 and by the National Cancer Institute/National Toxicology Program through 2004." Chinese Macaque SNP GBrowse
From the website of the Chinese Macaque SNP GBrowse: The Chinese Macaque SNP (CMSNP) database was developed by the Kunming Institute of Zoology (KIZ), the Beijing Genomics Institute at Shenzhen (BGI-Shenzhen), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The data is illustrated in GBrowse, which is developed under the GMOD database. Each SNP is annotated as CMSNP plus a number. The chromosomal distribution of the SNPs in Chinese macaque is displayed by the pie chart. As the first nonhuman primate genome-wide sequence variation database, the purpose of CMSNP is to organize and present the rhesus macaque sequence variation data, which is a useful resource for genomic and medical research. |

The site separately lists studies that are approved by national peer-reviewed panels. Cleveland Museum of Natural History: Hamann-Todd Non-Human Primates Collection
The Hamann-Todd Non-Human Primates Collection is located at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and contains 1216 specimens. 967 of these specimens are represented by cranial and postcranial skeletal remains. A downloadable database is available on the website. Information in the database contains the following on each specimen: specimen number, genus, species, age grade (infant, juvenile, adult), sex, if postcranial and/or skull is available, and collection locality. |

Health Canada's Clinical Trials Database is a listing of information about phase I, II and III clinical trials in patients. The database is managed by Health Canada and provides a source of information about Canadian clinical trials involving human pharmaceutical and biological drugs. A clinical trial that is found in the database indicates that it has met Health Canada's requirements. The database may also assist Canadians in finding clinical trials that might be relevant to their medical condition. The Clinical Trials Database is not a registry, and therefore, it does not contain comprehensive information about each clinical trial. It is not intended to promote or recruit for specific clinical trials and therefore does not contain contact information of clinical trial sponsors. |

The CoCoMac (Collations of Connectivity Data on the Macaque Brain) database is "a source for the most comprehensive, systematic and detailed collation of published data from mapping and tracing experiments in the macaque brain." Users can search and browse for information in CoCoMac three ways: searching by Connectivity, Mapping, or Literature. Searches can be performed by typing in a brain region, keyword or selecting terms from a list. A quick start guide is provided for CoCoMac users. Users must register for a free account in order to access CoCoMac. |

CoCoMac 2nd Edition
CoCoMac 2nd Edition is a new redevelopment site of CoCoMac (Collations of Connectivity Data on the Macaque Brain). According to the website, CoCoMac 2nd Edition "powers the graphical interface to CoCoMac provided by the Scalable Brain Atlas." Like the original CoCoMac, the database is "a source for the most comprehensive, systematic and detailed collation of published data from mapping and tracing experiments in the macaque brain." Most features of CoCoMac can be accessed on CoCoMac 2nd Edition, but CoCoMac is still available for functionality that is not yet available on this site. |

The Center for the Multiscale Analysis of Genomic and Cellular Networks (MAGNet) is one of eight National Centers for Biomedical Computing (NCBC) and one of twelve inter-disciplinary Centers for Cancer Systems Biology (CCSB). MAGNet aims to "develop novel Structural and Systems Biology methods and tools for the dissection of molecular interactions in the cell and for the interaction-based elucidation of cellular phenotypes." The Comparative Placentation website was created "to assist with the examination and evaluation of the many different types of mammalian placentas." The Conservation Database for Lorises and Pottos contains information and data relevant for users interested in the conservation of these prosimian primates. "Necropsy Show and Tell" is a collection of 35mm slide images of animal necropsy specimens collected by Dr. John M. King at the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine. The slide collections consists of images collected over the past 30 years. Selected images have been scanned into a computer and cataloged. Necropsy images can be searched several ways: keyword search; simple search; or advanced search. A link to a table of contents is available for users who want to browse through the image collection. |

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Therapeutic Development Network is a nationwide network of of cystic fibrosis clinical research centers that "specialize in conducting clinical trials to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of new CF therapies." Many of these therapies are being clinically tested under the auspices of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Drug Development Pipeline, seeking more effective options for treatment and potential cures. The Therapeutic Development Network site provides links to connect people to local research centers, care centers, and clinical trial testing opportunities.
